Urine Luck? Fountain County Man Arrested with Meth and Synthetic Pee

 Apr 29, 2025 • 1 min read

Talk about a sticky situation: late one Thursday night, Lafayette police pulled over a truck for a burned-out license plate light—only to discover a stash that reads like a wild episode of “Cops.” What started as a routine traffic stop on State Road 38 East quickly turned into a chemistry experiment gone wrong when officers spotted more than just vehicle code violations.

According to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office affidavit, 41-year-old Christopher David Newman was driving under an active warrant when the officer asked him to step out. A search of Newman’s truck revealed three baggies of white crystals tucked inside a cigarette pack, a pipe caked with burnt residue, and—brace yourself—two bottles of gold-colored liquid. Field tests confirmed those crystals were methamphetamine, and Newman claimed the mysterious bottles were “years old” synthetic urine he was saving for… well, that part remains a mystery.

It turns out Newman was on probation in Fountain County and required to submit to random drug tests. Possession of “adulterant or synthetic urine” is a serious charge when you’re legally obligated to stay clean—and apparently, he wasn’t taking any chances on an untimely pop quiz. Now he’s facing charges for meth possession, paraphernalia and synthetic urine possession or sale, carrying up to six and a half years behind bars if convicted.

As of Sunday, Newman remained in Tippecanoe County Jail on $2,500 cash bond, pondering the irony that his own probation conditions may have tempted him to pack that phony pee. After all, who wouldn’t want a backup plan for evading a nasty drug test? Unfortunately for Newman, cops often know exactly where to look when they suspect you’re trying to pull the wool—er, toilet paper—over their eyes.
